Instructor Bio: This fireside conversation features **Danna Freedman**, the Frederick George Keyes Professor of Chemistry and QMIT Faculty Director, in dialogue with **Eric Lander**, Founding Director Emeritus of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Eric Lander is one of the world's most influential figures in genomics and technology policy. As a principal leader of the Human Genome Project and founding director of the Broad Institute, he played a central role in the genomic revolution and has deep experience in shepherding emerging technologies from early research to widespread adoption. He served as Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and Science Advisor to the President from 2021 to 2022. A mathematician and molecular biologist by training, Lander brings a unique cross-disciplinary perspective on the conditions that enable transformative technologies to move from early adoption to broad societal impact.
Course Description: In this fireside conversation, Danna Freedman and Eric Lander draw parallels between the early days of genomics — a field that Lander helped shape — and the current moment in quantum technology.
