Future research will examine the cultural value of lunar heritage across diverse global cultural and national perspectives, expanding O’Leary’s primarily Western space-exploration-focused analysis to include global Indigenous and non-Western lunar cultural traditions. Longitudinal simulation studies will model cumulative surface disturbance from successive commercial missions to quantify buffer zone width requirements for full site preservation. Legal scholarship will draft detailed annexes to the Outer Space Treaty codifying lunar heritage site designation, artifact protection, and cross-border enforcement mechanisms, filling the regulatory gaps O’Leary identifies in her TED presentation.
