4. Empowerment through digital tools. Free gardening apps, community seed exchange platforms, local food maps, and shared tool libraries will make community gardening more accessible and connected. But technology will always be secondary — the core will always be connection between people and community.

Key areas for further research include: the long-term health impact of community gardening, especially lifelong effects on children’s eating habits; how to protect community gardens from developer takeover amid gentrification, and prevent gardening from driving displacement of original residents; and how to build regional community food networks that connect scattered individual gardens into a more resilient local food system.
Ultimately, the future of guerrilla gardening is not just about gardens. It is about what kind of cities we want to live in: cold, homogeneous cities designed only for cars and profit, or living, connected cities designed for residents, full of belonging. The answer to that question is not in the mayor’s office, or on developer blueprints. It is in the hands of every ordinary person willing to bend down and plant a seed in the earth.
